Alright, so for Fan Expo, it was decided that I was going to try to do a Star Wars costume of some form to go with my man's Vader. We narrowed it down to either Padme or Leia and frankly, Leia won with me. Narrowing down her costumes was simplistic enough, as this is one of my favourites of hers since it's seriously hawt and all that jazz.
So, this costume plagued me a lot over the last two or three months. I could have purchased the replica on Leia's Metal Bikini, but I just didn't have the cash. There is a licensed costume, but I've never heard anything good about it, and it's pretty pricey for a tight budget too. So we decided to follow other homemade suggestions.
We made three wire frames in total before surrendering for this round. The first two were with air drying clay, which never wanted to cling to the wire or cease cracking. The third we attempted with a caulking that also refused to hold. In the end, I had to settle for a non- detailed golden coloured bikini for a swim suit. It worked nicely mind you, despite it's inperfection.
The skirt was also a bitch. I just couldn't for the life of me figure a sound method of keeping the armor pieces on the panels while keeping the panels from sliding down. In the end, I used a way too wide elastic waist band to hold the skirt panels up with, and attempted to velcro and pin my cardboard armour into place (I frankly lacked any other ideas '^ ^). It actually worked really well onto I really started to move in it. Then the pins and velcro started failing. Thankfully we'd brought my duct tape with me in anticipation of possible problems, so it really saved my ass.
Anyways, the long and the short of this is that most of this costume is being redone. Save for my boots frankly (which I'm not actually wearing in this shot). I like those plenty. But I loved wearing it, had a fantastic time, and totally plan to revive it next year with version 2.0.
Picturewise, Clay directed the posing. I don't know how true it is, but it was fun. Too bad we had no Jaba though.
Lol. Yeah. I actually thought of doing that, but just ran out of time before I was in T.O. Still thought of trying to do it there, but I really had no where for the paint to dry properly. The worst part of it all was that I actually found the model magic I'd planned to be using (as opposed to air drying clay... model magic I recall having a fair haul more in the flexibility end of things, plus it was recommended by a few for the homemade frames) a week after the con. Who'd have thought Wal-mart would have put them with the toys; not the craft stuff? o.O
Yes. You really do. It's much fun.
